Growing up in a country that went through colonisation, it would be a stretch to say that its presence doesn’t still haunt us to this day. Having moved to Germany at the age of 20 to pursue my studies, it was somehow more visible once I left my homecountry.
Using pieces from my childhood that I brought with me during my move, Bocah was made. Stitching together a part of my childhood and my present, using toys and literary and lyrical texts from Indonesian works, primarily those discussing a concept of home and colonial presence in Indonesia.
